Postby Citrus on Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:43 am

Hey ya'll. I have been workin with a great Banjo player lately, but we are having a hard time gettingbhim good amplified tones. Anybody have some insight?
Beta sm98. Is looking like a good possibility.

Have you been using an amp or trying to go through a DI?

Sorry in advance, but it goes the banjo player asked the engineer to make his banjo sound good,, to which he replied "I can make it sound like a banjo, but I can't make it sound good..."

Why are there no banjos in Star Trek? Cause it's the future....

Depends on the pickup, really. Piezo's are tricky to begin with, much less on something like a banjo, amplifying them becomes even more difficult. Honestly I'd be surprised if our amps worked for that kind of thing because a banjo requires so much room in a different frequency spectrum than jazz guitar. If you're going to go with an amp I would try something from Roland, I think their AC60 or AC90 might do the trick.

I've been trying to think if I've even run into an electric banjo lately --- and I cannot recall one ... seems all the banjos I've worked with in terms of sound, I've mic'd. 57s work fine in most applications ... but I really like the Audio Technica PRO 370 Small-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone -- http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/5ef0e5beb547be51/index.html --- SRP $249.00

Hey Citrus,

I thought the banjo came through pretty well during your set on Thursday.

Cheers,
