You guys are gonna hear about this on the news.
This happened last night 2.26.09 at 10:30pm
I was going home from my girlfriend's last night in Capitol Hill where I live and came to 5th and Downing.
Ahead of me I see a car like doing what I thought was doughnuts in the street in front of me.
Tire smoke and everything. I thought "crazy driver, what is this guy doing??".
It was an older Ford escort.
So I'm like WTF?? Then I see there's a Denver police car behind him and I realize it's a chase. Then the suspect throws his car in reverse and is now coming at ME.
I throw my car in reverse and floor it but he doesn't hit me. The officer then did a PIT manuever and spun the guy out in the intersection of 5th and Lafayette.
The officer then gets out with his firearm drawn and yelled "hands up motherfucker" at the guy. I am about 15ft away in my truck.
I then see that the suspect took his car out of reverse and started to gun his engine. He was obviously going for the officer. Without thinking how stupid I am, I immediately put my truck into gear and rammed the suspect car's front right side and held him there pinned against the curb with a parked car behind him.
The suspect continued to gun his engine at the officer so he shot between 10-15 rounds into the guy at almost point blank range through the suspect's windshield.
He had to do it. The suspect was assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon in my book.
My truck was still pinning the suspect's car to the curb so this all happened right in front of me about 5 ft away. Obviously the guy wasn't going anywhere so I backed off and got out of the way.
I really couldn't see how badly the guy was shot up because it was dark but I assume he didn't make it.
I got out of my car and the officer told me to get back. He was very shaken. I asked if he was ok. He then sort of scolded me for getting involved but thanked me.
I truly thought the suspect was gonna run him down.
More police showed up and it was all over. I was taken to DPD headquarters downtown for questioning. My truck is still at the scene as I write this. I think it's ok damage wise but I didn't get to really
look at it.
I'm freaked out but otherwise ok.
